Son of A Bullfighter’s Ghost: mini-comic with 7-inch record and digital soundtrack

A matador and a young Spanish woman are so in love, they conceive a child after he dies in the ring. A tale of heartbreak, shame, revenge and destruction—with a twist ending not apparent in the song lyrics.

Is it a mini-comic with a soundtrack, or music that comes with a mini-comic? Hard to say, so you’ll find it in two sections on this website!

Decades ago, I suffered tendonitis so badly that I had to cancel gigs and abstain from playing guitar for nearly four months while I went through physiotherapy. I got busy with stuff that my gigging life always forced onto the back burner, namely, writing. I conceived of a plot outline for a graphic novel about matador and a Spanish woman so in love with each other that they conceived a child well after the matador had died in the ring. Then I got playing again and the plot outline sat untouched for years.

When I came up with a melody for a minor key song I wrote for my band at the time, Black Dirt of the West, I needed lyrics. I wanted something with a “sugar-skull vibe” and I remembered the outline. It took me about an hour to make the outline rhyme, and voila! It was released on a 7-inch record in 2010 by Transistor 66 Records (Winnipeg).

But I always yearned to see the story illustrated. So here we go: an eight-page mini-comic illustrated by the amazing Tom Bagley, complete with a 7-inch record! And QR
code for downloads, just in case you don’t have a turntable in your car or carry one with you while you’re out jogging.
